FNS is founded in yr. 1957, since the foundation of Tirana University, based on the profiles of mathematic-physics and biology-chemistry of the former High Pedagogical Institute, reforming also some sections of Institute of Sciences and Polytechnic Institute.

Four undergraduate diplomas were delivered after four years of study in the beginning: in Biology-Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mathematics and Physics. Then after, additionally 5-year diplomas were delivered: in Physics (since yr. 1965), in Mathematics (since yr. 1966), and in Biology (since yr. 1984). The 5-year degrees were formed branching from existing 4-year profiles mainly for teachers in Mathematics, in Physics and Biology-Chemistry, respectively. Diplomas of Pharmacy and Food Chemistry were first delivered in FNS, too; later, Pharmacy Department was attached to the Faculty of Medicine (UT), rejoined again FNS (in 1990s), and since yr. 2001 was attached again to the Faculty of Medicine. After yr. 1990, Food Chemistry department was attached to the Faculty of Economy (UT). The diploma in Informatics started in 1980s. After yrs. 1990s teaching in chemistry was reformed in three different diplomas: Chemical Engineering, Food Chemistry and General Chemistry
