Studies in Mathematics
 

            The studies  in mathematics last 4 or 5 years, according to the orientation.  The 4-years orientation leads to the diploma ”Teacher of Mathematics for Secondary Schools”. The 5- years orientation leads to the diploma “Mathematician”                  

The first two years of study are common for the two orientations. In the third year the students are divided in two groups depending on their results in first two years.

The courses offered in first two years are:

First year (30 weeks ,2 semesters)

1.6. Physical Education                            (Sem.1:0/2, Sem2:0/2)

Second year (30 weeks ,2 semesters)

2.1. Mathematical Analysis  2                    (Sem.1:3/4, Sem2:3/4)

2.2. Algebra     2                                     (Sem.1:2/2, Sem2:2/2)

2.3. Physics                                            (Sem.1:3/3, Sem2:3/3)

2.4. Psychology                                         (Sem.1:3/3, Sem2:3/3)

2.5. Foreign Language                                 (Sem.1:0/3, Sem2:0/3)

2.6. Physical Education                              (Sem.1:0/2, Sem2:0/2)

5-years Orientation           

Third year  (26 weeks, 2 semesters )

Fourth year (26 weeks, 2 semesters)

4.3. Mathematical Statistics                         (Sem2:3/4)

4.4. Topology                                            (Sem.1:2/2, Sem2:2/3)

4.5. Graphs and Networks                            (Sem.1:3/3)

4.6. Numerical Analysis                                (Sem.1:2/0, Sem2:2/0)

4.7. History of Mathematical Thought             (Sem.1:2/0, Sem2:2/0)

Fifth year  (24 weeks, 2 semesters)

5.1. Functional Analysis                                (Sem.1:3/2, Sem2:3/2)

5.2. Numerical Methods for PDE                     (Sem2:2/2)

5.3. Differential Geometry                             (Sem.1:2/3)

5.4. Special Course 1                                   (Sem2:4/0)

5.7. random Processes                                  (Sem.1:3/0)

The students of the fourth and fifth years participare in professional practice for 4 weeks each year.

4.4. Didactic of Mathematics 2                          (Sem.1:2/1)

4.5. History of Mathematical Thought                (Sem.1:4/0)

4.6. Elements of Computational Mathematics       (Sem.1:2/2)

4.7. Differential geometry                                 (Sem2:2/2)

4.8. Elementary Mathematics                            (Sem.1:2/2, Sem2:2/2)

The students of third and fourth year participate in pedagogical practice in elementary and secondary schools for four weeks each year.        

 

Post-graduate Studies    

There exists a post-graduate school in Mathematics Department in the following areas:

  • Topology and Functional Analysis.
  • Probability, Statistics and Applications
  • Numerical Analysis
  • Algebra
